Australia has become a top destination for international students, boasting 9 of the world’s top 100 universities and 95% of its universities ranked globally, according to the QS World University Rankings 2024. If you plan to study in Australia, understanding the subclass 500 student visa—its conditions, fees, and work rights—is essential.
Applying for the Australian Student Visa
To apply for a student visa (subclass 500), you must first:
- Select a course and institution – Enroll in a program offered by an approved Australian education or training provider.
- Obtain a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) – This document is mandatory for lodging your visa application.
The subclass 500 visa is required for all study levels, including:
- Higher education
- Vocational Education and Training (VET)
- Pathway programs
- English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS)
The visa allows you to stay in Australia for the duration of your course or up to five years, with multiple entries and exits permitted.
