The new Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) subclass 491 visas have been announced by the Department of Home Affairs. This visa will replace the Skilled Regional (Provisional) subclass 489 visas with effect from 16 November 2019.
Another announcement has been made about the new Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) subclass 191 visa which is all set to come into effect from November 2022.
Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) subclass 491 Visa can be availed under 2 subcategories –
- State-sponsored or nominated visa
- Family-sponsored visa
This visa can be availed if you have nomination by the State or Territory government or you’re being sponsored by an eligible family member who resides in regional Australia.
Applicants are required to meet a score of minimum points for the application. The policy is under changes and the availability of points might increase from 16 November 2019. Of course, you will have to meet the character and health requirements as per the norms.
Eligibility to apply under for the subclass 491 visa
Although each state and territory set their nomination criterion, there is a high possibility that the nomination requirements will remain the same. There can be variance depending on your employability, the time you have lived in the state and your financial capacity. It will help if you have been living or working for a long time in the nominating state. Even having been on a working holiday visa will increase your chances of being granted the visa. If you have family members living in the state, then also there are high chances of getting preference.
Permanent Residence under the 191 visa
Applicants can use this visa for the pathway for permanent residence .However; the applications for the same will be accepted from November 2022 onwards. The eligibility conditions are as follows –
- You should be the holder of one of the new skilled provisional visas (subclasses 494 or 491).
- You must be able to submit proof of having lived and worked in regional Australia for a minimum of three years period.
- You must be able to prove that you have earned a minimum of AUD 53,900 for three years.
