This visa allows people with distinguished talents in the profession, sport, art or research and media as well as their dependent family members to apply for permanent residency in Australia. Living as permanent residents in Australia the 858 Distinguished talent visa holders can work, study, receive subsidised health care benefits and many other benefits too. Other than these benefits, the visa holders are also eligible for applying for Australian citizenship and can even sponsor people for permanent residence.

- To apply for these visas, you need a nominator who can be an eligible person or organisation who has a national reputation in your field of expertise in Australia to nominate you.
- Nominator must know you personally and must be either an Australian citizen, permanent resident of Australia, an eligible citizen of New Zealand or an Australian organisation.
- The applicant must be presently active in the field of their expertise and must have a complete record of their exceptional achievements. In order to qualify for a distinguished talent visa.
- The applicant must either become independently established or obtain employment in their field of expertise in Australia. Your application should show how you can contribute economically culturally or socially to the nation and be an asset to the Australian community.
- The applicant must be financially independent and should be able to support their accompanying family members as well.
- The applicant and the accompanying family members must meet health requirements and must be of good character.
- It is expected that the applicant and their accompanying family member have functional English skills which are necessary to cope with every day and work situations.
- 18 years or above visa applicants are required to sign the Australian Values statement which bides you to respect the Australian way of life and obey Australian laws.
- Being the visa holder of a Distinguished Talent Visa 858, you may have a limitation that prevents you from applying for any other visa.
- The 18 years and above applicants can include a partner who can be their spouse or de facto relationship partner, your/partner’s dependent children or other dependent relatives living with you. The under 18 applicants can bring along parents and partners of parents as well.
